I've been considering putting some music man hum buckers in my jazz bass and then I thought split coil might be easier to mess with. Can anybody compare them in words for me? Thanks!

Depends how you wire them, really. Splitcoils can be combined to become "faux humbuckers".
But those MM humbuckers are pretty nice. I'm thinking about getting a Sandberg Jazz with MM/J pickups.

I think I'm gonna go for MM/MM if I decide to use those. If it's anything close to the G&L L2000 pickups, I would probably really like it. I have a feeling that a split j in the neck and regular j at the bridge would sound pretty close to a PJ. I might be wrong but it seems like it would to me.

Yeah, MM/J or MM/MM is the way to go for maximum bassage. Or even MM/P.

I have a Sandberg MM/P, it's a real monster combo. Admittedly, I'm the sort that usually prefers one pickup or the other on, though.
I'm not too sure how a split J compares, I think it could catch the vibe, but it'd still be pretty unique, as they're wound taller and thinner than P coils.

Arent MM pickups splittable? Ive always wanted a Fender Roacoe Beck V for the double jazz pickups. Any configuration you can imagine with the toggles, and no annoying battery.
If i want to adulterate my bass signal, ill do so outboard TYVM.

As for the Roscoe Beck, fairly low output(but who gives a shit, that's why amps have volume controls), but it's by *far* the best passive bass I've ever played/heard(albeit mine's a 4). Actually, it's right up there with the boutique stuff, in my opinion.

I dunno,I have tried a Lot,and for ME Vintage Gibson pups are the best. After trial by fire the 1976 bicentennial Thunderbird IS the ONE for me. I play one that is original as my main axe, back up is an Epiphone tbird WITH the pups FROM a 76 tbird. Tonewise THEY are identical, the Epi is actually lighter AND more fun to play.I play the Gibson as a main because of gear snobs.

Yeah, you can so some crazy stuff, I've even heard of guys having a 3 way switch that would be P-Series-Reverse P, though I don't particularly think having both a p and reverse p option is a big enough difference to loose out on a parallel option.

Good point. It's probably great if you're not a fan of parallel wiring though. Now I want to try a reverse P. I've been wanting Mark Hoppus sig for that very reason.

Nice, 4 or 5 string?

A 5 string, of whatever they call their P bass, I can never remember.
