Acoustic bass guitars don't have big enough bodies to really perform as acoustic BASS guitars.
Not bashing. It's just the way it is what with acoustic physics and all. Isn't much if anything you can do to get a full, reasonably loud bass tone out of them...aside from plugging them into an amp and speakers, which kind of defeats the purpose.
For a portable, acoustic, stringed bass instrument, you might want to check out a guitarron.

I just don't want to put a set of strings on that are less loud than bronze. I play mine unplugged with acoustic guitar and cajon all the time.
