Lazy? I could use the same reason for originals. I hate learning covers.
In truth though, the whole reason I started playing was to write my own stuff.

I'm not in a band right now, but I like doing originals because it's more fun in my opinion. I do like covers too though because It's easier to get paying gigs. I really hate doing covers and trying to sound just like the original. It's not fun for me unless I can be creative.

Originals for me.
I like the challenge and self expression. Personal satisfaction matters most to me.
I use my modest home studio as a sort of laboratory for fleshing out ideas.
I don't need money from playing music.
Doing only covers is like a paint by numbers approach to playing music.
Nothing against those that do, especially when $$ is involved.
