So I'm thinking about buying one of those Ibanez mikro basses 28.6" scale length. I want to try tuning BEAD an octave higher. What strings should I put on this thing? I might even try running this thing threw a guitar amp if it sounds good that way.
I'm also thinking about tuning my 30" acoustic Ibanez to BEAD on octave higher. What strings should I put on that thing? I don't think I can find acoustic strings for that tuning.
I've thought about doing this in the past, but I'm too worried about this string situation.

Call the owner of Just Strings. Or bassstringsonline, but JustStrings has a better selection.

Went to JustStrings. They have standard piccolo sets, the biggest choice is D'addario. The B is harder, but if you go to single strings, D'addario has Flex Steels in every gauge imaginable.for longscale bass.
Now i just rembered you want to convert your shortscales.
More coffee.

I'd be worried about the ridiculous amount of tension on the neck with the strings pulled tight enough to go UP a full octave.

Piccolo strings are thinner and designed to go an octave higher.

Piccolo strings are thinner and designed to go an octave higher. I've never played a Piccolo, matter of fact,I don't think I've ever even held one in my hands.

Yeah that is pretty cool, but you just might as well play a regular guitar, perhaps in a dropped tuning. I'm trying to figure out what practical application that would serve IN a band, except to replace the guitar player, and then, who's playing the BASS?

I have no desire to play it with a band, but if I did use it in a band there would need to be another bass player for sure. I feel like the piccolo bass would force me to play differently than I play my guitars.

I'm considering flatwounds for the acoustic. Thoughts?

Surely the four heaviest strings out of a pack of baritone guitar strings would do what you want?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too.

Surely the four heaviest strings out of a pack of baritone guitar strings would do what you want? Yeah that would probably work. Thanks!

Make sure it's a 28-30" set, some are made for standard guitar scales.
EDIT:
Oh, I tried this picallo thing once, but what I used were some leftover strings from an 8 set.
Thought it was a lot of fun, really, wouldn't mind a bass specifically for it.
